About

As per the guide lines issued by the UGC to prevent occurrence of ragging in the campus an Anti-ragging committee headed by the Principal and consisting of representatives of civil and police administration, local media, non-Government organizations involved in youth activities, representatives of faculty members, office superintendent, parents, students belonging to fresher category as well as senior students is functioning in this College. A smaller body anti ragging squad is functioning in the college for maintaining vigil and oversight and patrolling functions to which the incidence of ragging can be referred and which should make the on the spot enquiry and submit report to anti-ragging committee for actions.

ANTI – RAGGING COMMITTEE & ANTI – RAGGING SQUAD

An Anti – Ragging Committee and an Anti – Ragging Squad are put into action in the college for the benefit of students. The body is actively involved in curtailing the social evils of ragging. The Anti – Ragging Committee is chaired by our Principal, Prof Dr.M.Sumathi – Ragging Squad is headed by Mrs.Priya

OBJECTIVES OF ANTI RAGGING COMMITTEE

  • Anti-Ragging Committee will be the Supervisory and Advisory Committee in preserving a Culture of Ragging Free Environment in the college Campus.
  • The Anti-Ragging Squad- office bearers will work under the Supervision of Anti Ragging Committee and to engage in the works of checking places like Hostels, Buses, Canteens, Classrooms and other places of student congregation.
  • Anti-Ragging Committee will be involved in designing strategies and action plan for curbing the Menace of Ragging in the college by adopting array of activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF ANTI RAGGING COMMITTEE

  • To keep a vigil and stop the incidences of Ragging, if any, happening / reported in the places of student aggregation including, classrooms, canteen, grounds, lawns etc.
  • Mandated Orientation Programme for fresher’s and parents to familiarize them with the institutional rules and regulations inclusive of anti-ragging measures, what constitutes ragging and the consequences to be faced.
  • Prepare fresher’s not to oblige to such practices if at all they face any but to report boldly.
  • As a preventive measure a member of the committee is appointed during the admission procedure throughout.
  • Regular policing by the committee members, and student’s volunteers members in the beginning of the odd semester every year.
  • To educate the students by adopting various means about the menace of ragging and related punishments there too.
  • Assurance to maintain their confidentiality if reported.
  • Make discrete random surveys.

INITIATIVES TO PREVENT THE MENACE OF RAGGING

  • Put up posters on Anti ragging on notice boards and at various vantage points in the college campus.
  • Anti-Ragging complaint box will be installed at various places in the college so that students can freely and fearlessly contact the committee.
  • Various competitions like essay writing, slogan writing, extempore and poster making on themes/topics related to ragging and anti-ragging will be organised to create awareness among students and sensitize the young minds on various aspects of ragging.
  • Anti-ragging campaign/rallies will be organised within and outside the college campus to generate awareness. Enthusiastic students usually participate in these campaign rallies with charts, posters and boards with anti-ragging slogans written on them.
  • Keeping in mind the present scenario to maintain and fallow social distancing norms webinars will be organised (instead of seminar) to educate the students about various aspects of ragging and how it can be completely eradicated.

FUTURE PLANS

  • Arrange for professional counselling sessions to prevent any untoward incidents to both seniors and freshers.
  • Appoint mentoring cells involving senior students of college

PUNISHMENT FOR PARTICIPATION IN/OR ABETMENT OF RAGGING

  • Cancellation of admission
  • Suspension from attending classes
  • Withholding/withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits.
  • Debarring from appearing in any test/examination or other evaluation process.
  • Withholding results.
  • Debarring from representing the institution in any national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
  • Suspension/expulsion from the hostel.
  • Rustication from the institution for periods varying from 1 to 4 semesters or equivalent period.
  • Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution.
  • Fine up to Rs. 25,000/-

Anti Ragging Awareness Programme -Police

An Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme was conducted on 19th August 2025 at our institution to create awareness among students about the harmful effects of ragging and to ensure a safe and supportive campus environment. The event was organized under the guidance of our Respected Principal, faculty members, and the Anti-Ragging Committee. The programme began with a Prayer song and warm welcome address given by Mrs. Sathiyabama M.Sc (N)., HOD Department of Child Health Nursing. An inspiring speech was delivered by Prof. Dr.M.Sumathi, M.Sc.,(N)., Ph.D., Principal, VCN, addressed the safe and respectful campus environment. This program highlighted the importance of preventing ragging and promoting harmony among students. Ragging is a serious offense with severe consequences, and we aim to create a culture of respect and empathy. The Chief Guest of the program was Mrs.T.Deepa, Inspector of Police, Tiruchengode Rural Police Station. She explained regarding ragging, its related punishments and Act of anti ragging. She highlighted the significance of eradicating ragging in educational institutions. She also addressed important issues such as mobile phone abuse, sexual harassment, and drug abuse & encouraged students to follow discipline and mutual respect. The programme also included awareness sessions on laws, punishments, and disciplinary actions related to ragging. Students took the Anti-Ragging Pledge, committing themselves to maintain a ragging-free campus. All promised that they won’t indulge in ragging or any other form of violent behaviour and will contribute in making Vivekanandha College of Nursing as "Ragging Free" campus. As part of the programme, various competitions such as slogan writing, essay writing, poster making, and elocution were conducted to promote creativity and active student participation. A large number of students enthusiastically took part, showcasing their talent and spreading the message of anti-ragging. Certificates were awarded to the winners and participants by Mrs.T.Deepa, Inspector of Police, Tiruchengode rural Police Station which motivated the students and recognized their efforts. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Chitra M.Sc (N)., Assistant Professor, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest and all faculty members for their valuable contribution.
