Community Health Experience

OLD AGE HOME VISIT

We Vivekanandha College of Nursing had been visited at Sivabhakkiyam Rehabilitation Centre, Elanagar. Our students of II B.Sc (N) IV semester (97No’s) students visited on 04.09.2024. Students had been visited and gathered information regarding physically and mentally retarded Children & activities of old age home. This was explained by Mr.John Vijayakumar J.D and objectives were met.

All the students are observed the activities of old age home and acquired knowledge regarding needs of the old age people and activities of daily living.

BREAST FEEDING AWARENESS PROGRAMME

Vivekanandha College of Nursing, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Nursing and Child Health Nursing adjoined with Govt Medical College hospital, Namakkal celebrated Breast feeding week programme on 01.08.2024 at Government Medical College Hospital, Namakkal. The programme started with prayer song and followed by welcome address was given by Dr.R.Vasumathi.MD., Associate Professor in Pediatrics.Followed by lighting the lamp was done by the dignitaries.

The programme was headed by Dr.SANTHA ARULMOZHI, MD., DA., DEAN, Government Medical College Hospital, Namakkal . In this programme Dr. KODEESHWARI MS.,(OG) Assistant Professor, given brief explanation regarding antenatal awareness.Dr.Gowtham Selvaraj DNB Post graduate in paediatrics had done the PPT Presentation on the importance of breastfeeding.Then the staff Nurse Mrs.Elakia had given the PPT presentation regarding the benefits of breast feeding.Followed by Staff Nurse Mrs.Kalaivani had given speech regarding the baby care after the delivery.

Then the felicitation was given by Dr.R. Gunasekaran MD, DM(Medical Superintendent, GMCH, Namakkal, Dr.M.Leelatharan, MS (Ortho), RMO, GMCH, Namakkal and Dr.R.Aruna Rani MD., (OG), Associate Professor in OBG, GMCH, Namakkal and then the vote of thanks was given by Dr. S.Hemalatha MBBS., DCH, Paediatrician , GMCH, Namakkal.

Followed by students programme was started. 15 Staff Nurses, 6 VCN staffs and 30 students , 50 Antenatal and Postnatal mothers and the doctors were participated in health education session.The students of II year DGNM and IV year B.Sc.,(N) were enthusiastically explicited a DRAMA about “BREAST MILK BANK AWARENESS”. Final year B.Sc.,(N) student Ms.Trisha had given speech regardingbreastfeeding theme.Health education was given for the Antenatal and Postnatal Mothers regarding different Techniques of the breastfeeding by IVth Year B.Sc nursing students.Then the Vote of Thanks was given by II year GNM student.Then the Programme was ended with National Anthem.

On 6th August 2024, the Poster Presentation competition was conducted in GMCH , Namakkal regarding the Importance of Breast feeding.Our college student Ms. Soshana Lakshmi won first prize in that competition.

Through this programme our students as well as Antenatal and Postnatal Mothers gained knowledge regarding exclusive breast feeding, support for working mothers, nutrition, mothers rights to breast feed and breast feeding techniques. . All Antenatal and Postnatal Mothers got awareness about breast feeding and its importance. Around 50 Antenatal and Postnatal Mothers were participated in the programme and got benefited.

WORLD POPULATION DAY-2024

We Vivekanandha College of Nursing have conducted world Population Day programme at Primary Health Center, Elachipalayam, Tiruchengode, Namakkal (Dt). Our I year students (37 No’s) are actively participated. The beginning of the programme was started with Tamilthai vazhthu. The welcome address was given by the Student. The programme was headed by Dr. Leelavathi, Medical Officer, Primary Health Center, Elachipalayam, Tiruchengode, Namakkal (Dt). The I year Students and Public have taken world Population Day Pledge. Our Nursing students presented a SOCIODRAMA the people regarding population explosion and control of population. The Health Education Program regarding Family Planning Methods (Male and Female) & the advantages of Family Welfare Scheme was given by the students. Distribution of Protein rich diet (Black Channa) given the people. After vote of thanks the Programme ended with National Anthem.

Around 50 people gained knowledge regarding family welfare schemes and methods of family planning, population explosion and it’s control.

SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAMME

We Vivekanandha College of Nursing have conducted School health programme at Panchayat Union Primary School, Manickampalayam, Tiruchengode, Namakkal (Dt). All our B.Sc.,(N) IV year students (89) students are actively participated. The beginning of the programme was started with Tamilthai vazhthu. The welcome address was given by IV year B.Sc(N) student. The programme is headed by Mr.K.Palaniyappan, Head Master, Panchayat Union Primary School, Manickampalayam, Tiruchengode, Namakkal. The health assessment was done (64 No’s childrens) by IV year B.Sc(N). Our Nursing students Presented the Skit for primary school students regarding the Child Abuse. Distribution of Protein rich diet (Ground Nut Sweat Ball) given . The Health Education Program regarding Personal Hygiene was given by IV year B.Sc(N) students, VCON. After Vote of thanks the Programme ended with National Anthem.

All the school students gained knowledge regarding Child Abuse. Their knowledge regarding Personal hygiene also have been improved. Assessment of knowledge regarding Child Abuse is inadequate that is 30% during pretest whereas after the health education by drama and role plays the knowledge level have been improved to 90% which is adequate knowledge.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY -2024

Theme:LAND RESTORATION ,DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT RESILIENCE

Vivekanandha College of Nursing, Environment Committee and NSS Association conducted The world environment day on 5.06.2024 in vcn seminar hall which was headed by, Dr.M.Sumathi,M.Sc(N).,Ph.D(N),Principal, Vivekanandha college of Nursing, NSS nodal officer Mrs.S.Shanmugapriya.MSc(N), Environment committee Presiding officer Ms.N.Prageetha.,M.sc(N) and IV year B.Sc(N) students (94 No’s) are participated in this Programme. Quiz competition was conducted based On the theme of this year Environment day “Land Restoration , Desertification And Drought Resilience.” Totally 24 B.Sc(N) students were participated in Quiz competition. Winners were awarded with appreciation certificates.

Students got awareness about importance of Environment in their life
Students got knowledge about the current critical environmental issues like air pollution, climate change ,plastic pollution ,sea level increase ,food security and more .

CHILD LABOUR PROGRAMME 2024

Theme: Let’s Act on Our Commitments : End Child Labour

Vivekanandha College of Nursing Conducted Child Labour Programme in lieu of World Day Against Child Labour on 12.06.2024 at Primary Health Center- Manickkampalayam.

The main aim of the programme is to highlight the collective action needed to protect children from Labour – To Prevent Child abuse, to promote child education and to improve the quality of their life.

The chief guest of the programme was Dr.K.Karunagaran, MBBS, Block Medical officer, Dr.Amuthavalli, BSMS, Dr.Nagaraj DMO Manikkampalayam PHC. In this programme Senior Nurse Ms.J.Gayathri, 7 Staff Nurses, 6 VHN, 3 VCN staffs and 35 students were participated. The welcome address was given by III Year B.Sc.(N) student. The students of III year B.Sc.(N), II year DGNM, I year ANM & II year M.Sc.(N) were enthusiastically explicited a ROLE PLAY about “World Day Against Child Labour”. Students also have updated the knowledge of public about National Child Labour Act through Speech & Poster presentation. The event was guided by Prof.Dr.M.Sumathi., M.Sc.,(N)., Ph.D., Principal, VCN & coordinated by Mrs.Sathiabhama, M.Sc(N), Assistant Professor, Mrs.Bharathi.V, M.Sc.(N), Nursing Tutor and Ms.K.Karthika B.Sc(N)., Clinical Instructor of Child Health Nursing Department, Vivekanandha College of Nursing. The programme ended with Vote of thanks.

Around 50 people were benefited from the programme and got awareness about various aspects of against child labour. Our students encouraged people to avoid child labour, which helps to prevent the spread of child abuse, to promote child education, to improve the quality of their life and the parents doubts have been clarified by nursing students.

World Immunization Awareness Programme 2024

Theme: Humanly Possible : Saving Lives Through Immunization

Vivekanandha College of Nursing Conducted Immunization awareness programme in lieu of world immunization week on 26.04.2024 at Government Hospital, Tiruchengode.

The main aim of the programme is to highlight the collective action needed to protect children from Vaccine- Preventable diseases.

The chief guest of the programme was Dr.M.Mohana Banu, MBBS, DCH - Chief Medical Officer, Dr.P.Sakthi Seethalakshmi HOD, Professor- Pediatrician, Dr.Janani Goplan, PG., - Pediatrician, Mrs.A.Vasanthamani – Nursing Superintendent Grade II, Mrs.G.Leela - Nursing Superintendent Grade II- Government Hospital at Tiruchengode. The welcome address and introduction was given by II-DGNM student. After the inaugural session, students have updated National immunization schedule through Models, Poster presentation and socio drama. III year B.Sc.,(N), II year DGNM, I year ANM and M.Sc.,(N) students have participated in the awareness programme and exhibited various aspects of immunization. The event was guided by Prof.Dr.M.Sumathi., M.Sc.,(N)., Ph.D., Principal, VCN & coordinated by Mrs.Sathiabhama, M.Sc(N), Assistant Professor, Mrs.Bharathi.V.,M.Sc.,(N)., Nursing Tutor and Mrs.Meenakshi.V., M.Sc.,(N)., II year student of Child Health Nursing Dept, Vivekanandha College Nursing. The programme ended with Vote of thanks.

Around 100 people were benefited from the programme and got awareness about various aspects of immunization. Our students encouraged people to get vaccines, which helps to prevent the spread of deadly diseases and the patients’ doubts have been clarified by nursing students.

WORLD TUBERCULOSIS DAY

Theme: Yes! We can End TB

We Vivekananda College of Nursing have conducted World TB Day Awareness Programme at Manickampalayam Primary Health Center, Tiruchengode, Namakkal (dt). All our IInd year ANM students (55 No’s) are actively participated in Villupattu Regarding Tuberculosis Awareness. This Programme was headed by Dr.R.Karunagaran.MBBS, Block Medical Officer, Manickampalayam PHC and Nursing Faculties Ms.G.sathya & Ms.A.Pramiladevi. The beginning of the programme was started with Tamilthai vazhthu by IInd year ANM Students. The welcome address was given by IInd year ANM student. The VILLUPATTU regarding Prevention of Tuberculosis and Health Education for Prevention of Tuberculosis given to the Manickampalayam Community area people. Tea with Snakes provided for the people and students. Dr.R.Karunagaran.MBBS, Block Medical Officer given talk about the knowledge of Tuberculosis, Signs & symptoms, Investigation, Treatment & prevention of Tuberculosis Thoroughly. Vote of thanks was given by IInd year ANM student. Finally the programme was dispersed with national anthem by II ANM Students.

All the Manickampalayam Community area people are gained knowledge regarding Tuberculosis. They also got Tuberculosis awareness about disease condition and medical management. Their knowledge regarding dietary sources also has been improved. Before the Knowledge of tuberculosis in the community is inadequate (25%). After observation of the Villupattu and Health Education of the community people their Knowledge of tuberculosis is adequate (85%).

SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAMME

We Vivekanandha College of Nursing have conducted School health programme at Government Primary School, Karichipalayam, Tiruchengode, Namakkal (Dt). All our M.Sc.,(N) I year students, I year DGNM (60) students are actively participated in the health education program. The beginning of the programme was started with Tamilthai vazhthu. The welcome address was given by Mrs. S. Nasira M.Sc.,(N) HOD of Community Health Nursing, Vivekanandha College of Nursing. The programme is headed by Mrs. Gowri Block Educational Officer, Paramathy, Tiruchengode, Namakkal. Students Presented the skit for primary school students regarding the healthy, unhealthy food and knowledge regarding dental caries. Distribution of calcium rich diet (Ragi Adai),protein rich diet (Green Gram), have been done. The Health Education Program regarding protein, calcium, vitamins rich diet was given by Mrs.M.Maheswari, I Year M.Sc.,(N) student and I year DGNM students VCON. Vote of thanks was given by Ms.A.Pramila Devi B.Sc.,(N), Nursing Tutor of Community Health Nursing Department. Finally the programme ended with National Anthem.

All the school students gained knowledge regarding healthy and unhealthy food and knowledge regarding dental caries. Their knowledge regarding dietary sources also have been improved. Assessment of knowledge about healthy, unhealthy food habits and knowledge regarding dental caries is inadequate that is 30% during pretest whereas after the intervention of our drama and role plays health education the knowledge level have been improved to 90% which is adequate knowledge.

MEGA POLIO CAMP

Theme: VACCINES WORK FOR ALL

Vivekanandha College of Nursing adjoined with Department of Directorate Public Health and Preventive Medicine conducted Mega polio camp on 03.03.2024 at seetharampalayam and suriyampalayam PHC, Namakkal. II nd year ANM students and along with 2 Nursing Tutors [Ms.A.Pramiladevi. B.Sc.(N), Mrs. Karthikadevi B.Sc.(N)] participated in this polio camp. The camp headed by Dr.Arulgugan M.B.B.S Block Medical Officer, Dr. Gokurarathiya Medical officer given guidelines about this camp and Other staffs of primary health centers, seetharampalayam and suriyampalayam also participated in this polio camp. Through this camp awareness was created about immunization and its importance in prevention of diseases.

Around 6800 people got benefited by the mega polio camp

WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY AWARENESS PROGRAMME 2023

Theme: “ GIVE BLOOD, GIVE PLASMA, SHARE LIFE & SHARE OFTEN”

Vivekanandha College of Nursing NSS Committee along with Community Health Nursing department Conducted world blood donor day awareness programme on 16.06.2023 at Karichipalayam village. This is headed by Prof.Dr.M.Sumathi.,M.Sc(N), Ph.D,(N), Principal, Vivekanandha College of Nursing. The welcome address was given by Prof.Mrs.S.Nasira, M.Sc(N), HOD of Community Health Nursing department. The Programme was coordinated by Mrs.S.Shanmugapriya, M.Sc.,(N) and Mrs.M.Sindhumathi, M.Sc.,(N). The aim of the programme is to highlight the types of blood group, donor recipient details, benefits of blood donation. Indication & Contra indications of blood donation. The importance of blood and it effects which is useful of human beings also was emphasized. Explained to the people regarding incidents like accidents, bleeding, surgery, emergency and critical situations in which the blood transfusion. Updated functions are explained by I Year DGNM students by conducted a skit.

Around 50 people were benefited from the programme and got awareness about various aspects of blood donation. Our students encouraged the people & created awareness about blood donation.

WORLD HEALTH DAY 2023

Vivekanandha College of Nursing SNA and NSS Committee Conducted world health day awareness programme on 27.04.2023 panchayat Union Primary School Manickampalayam. The welcome address was given by II year ANM student.The programme headed by Mr.Palaniyappan, Head master of Panchayat Union Primary School Manickampalayam The aim of the programme is to highlights the importance of health and well being of children’s . Students have updated explained the personal hygiene through socio drama. II Year ANM students have been participated in the awareness programme and exhibited various aspects of personal hygiene.

Around 70 children were benefited from the programme and got awareness about various aspects of personal hygiene . Our students encouraged children to maintain hygiene , which helps to prevent communicable disease.

WATER PURIFICATION FIELD VISIT

Our Vivekanandha College of Nursing students have made observational visit on water purification system at Thotilpatti in Mettur Dam, Salem (Dt). This is the part of our programme to meet the curriculum requirements.The programme schedule given below,

The Students were accompanied with 3 faculty members started at 8.00am from Vivekanandha College of Nursing by two vehicles reached the water purification system at 10.00am. As per the schedule, we have started our observational visit in the above mentioned date. The Assistant Engineer one who worked as a operator has given the guidance and explained about water purification procedure. It was a good experience for all the students.

OBJECTIVES OF WATER PURIFICATION:

  • State what is water purification
  • Identify the methods of water purification
  • Suggest which method is most appropriate
  • Link appropriate methods with the given situations
  • Discuss limitations of distilling
  • Work in groups to present method of purifying using creative ways

PROCESS OF WATER PURIFICATION:

Screening

Screening is the first unit operation used at wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Screening removes objects such as rags, paper, plastics, and metals to prevent damage and clogging of downstream equipment,piping, and appurtenances.

Aeration

Aeration is the process of adding air into wastewater to allow aerobic biodegradation of the organic materials.

Coagulation and Flocculation

Flocculation and Coagulation in water treatment are used to remove suspended solids through a process that destabilizes the suspended particles in water solutions.

Sedimentation

Sedimentation is a physical water treatment process using gravity to remove suspended solids from water. Solid particles entrained by the turbulence of moving water may be removed naturally by sedimentation in the still water of lakes and oceans.

Filtration

Filtration, the clear water passes through filters that have different pore sizes and are made of different materials (such as sand, gravel, and charcoal). These filters remove dissolved particles and germs, such as dust, chemicals, parasites, bacteria, and viruses.

Chlorination

Chlorination is the process of adding chlorine to drinking water to kill parasites, bacteria, and viruses. Different processes can be used to achieve safe levels of chlorine in drinking water.

Supplementary Treatment

Supplementary treatment may be needed for the benefit of the population. One such instance is the fluoridation of water, where fluoride is added to water.

The students were enthusiastically asked doubts regarding Filtration, Chlorination, sedimentation. They were clarified our students doubts and explained well.

Outcome

Students gained knowledge on water purification procedure and practically have witnessed the procedure. It was a very good exposure for our students.

WORLD IMMUNIZATION AWARENESS PROGRAMME 2023

Vivekanandha College of Nursing Conducted immunization awareness programme in lieu of world immunization week on 26.04.2023 at Nallur PHC. The welcome address was given by I year M.Sc. (N) student. The chief guest of the programme was Dr.D.Kavitha, MBBS-Block Medical Officer, Nallur PHC, Paramathi block, Dr.Mehala -Incharge Medical Officer, Dr.Karthick.S -Deputy Medical Officer, Ms.Santhini. P, Staff Nurse, Ms.Pavithra.S Staff Nurse. The aim of the programme is to highlight the collective action needed to protect children from vaccine- preventable diseases. Students have updated National immunization schedule through chart presentation and socio drama. ANM, P.B.B.Sc.,(N) and M.Sc.,(N) students have been participated in the awareness programme and exhibited various aspects of immunization.

Around 50 people were benefited from the programme and got awareness about various aspects of immunization. Our students encouraged people to get vaccines, which helps to prevent the spread of deadly diseases.

Community Health Experience

The students are gaining Community experience in adapted villages of Kumaramangalam, Karattupalayam, Madha kovil, Sooriyampalayam, Sattayampudhur which is near to our college, And also the students are posted in Primary Health Centre, Manickampalayam to carry out primary health care activities.

WORLD CONSUMER RIGHTS DAY

We Vivekananda College of Nursing have conducted World Consumer Rights Day in Kokkarayanpettai PHC. The beginning of the programme was started with Tamilthai vazhthu by II year ANM Students. The welcome address was given by II year ANM student Ms.A.Kaviya. Ms.K.Subhadharshini explained detail about consumer rights like purpose, Food Adulteration, complications, importance, Prevention Methods & also explain about Clean Energy Transition. II year ANM students actively participated in Drama, Dance & Mime show. Vote of thanks was given by Ms.P.Krishnaveni - II year ANM student. Finally the programme was dispersed by national anthem.

All the Kokkarayanpettai people are gained knowledge regarding consumer rights like purpose, Food Adulteration, complications, importance of consumer rights, Prevention Methods.

COMMON WEALTH DAY

We Vivekananda College of Nursing have conducted common wealth Day in PHC, Nallur. All our I year ANM students are actively participated. The beginning of the programme was started with Tamilthai Vazhthu. The welcome address was given by I year ANM student Ms.Kalaiyarasi. The Dance, Mime show and Drama regarding respect to physically disabled was conducted by I year ANM students. The vote of thanks was given Ms.Dhanusha. Finally the programme was dispersed by National Anthem.

All the Nallur people are gained knowledge regarding how to care the disabled person and the rights of disabled person in society.

SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAMME

We Vivekanandha College of Nursing have conducted School health programme at PanchayatUnion Elementary School, Manickampalayam, Tiruchengode, Namakkal(dt)Primary school ,Karichipalayam ,Tiruchengode,Namakkal(dt). All our IV BSC Nursing students are actively participated. The beginning of the programme was started with Tamilthai vazhthuby Students. The welcome address was given by IV BSC(N) student. The health assessment was done for the all students & a puppet show was conducted for elementary school students regarding the mobile addiction . Villupattu also was played about mobile usage . Distribution of protein and iron rich diet (greendhal , pearl millets) have been done. The health education program regarding good touch and bad touch, hand washing also was taught to the students . Vote of thanks was given by IVth year BSC(N) student. Finally the programme was dispersed by national anthem.

All the school students gained knowledge regarding good touch and bad touch . They also got awareness about disadvantages of mobile use . Their knowledge regarding dietary sources also have been improved.

IMMUNIZATION DAY

We Vivekananda College of Nursing have conducted immunization Day in Anganwadi Manickampalayam. All our IV year students are actively participated. The beginning of the programme was started with Tamilthai vazhthu by IV year Students . The welcome address was given by IV year student Ms.Divyashree. Ms.Janani explained detail about new immunization like purpose, schedule, indications, contra indications, importance of administering vaccines.Vote of thanks was given IV year student Ms.Jeny . Finally the programme was dispersed by national anthem.

All rural mothers was gained knowledge regarding immunization .

NATIONAL YOUTH DAY

We Vivekananda College of Nursing have conducted National youth day awareness programme in Government higher secondary school, Karichipalayam. All our IVth Year B.Sc(N) students are actively participated. The beginning of the programme was started with Tamilthai vazhthu. The welcome address was given by Ms.Sandhiya, IVth Year B.Sc(N) student. Ms.Oviyakannagi was given Speech regarding youth rights, promote awareness and provide information about youth. Vote of thanks was given by IVth year B.Sc Nursing student. Finally the programme was dispersed by national anthem.

All the IV Year B.Sc Nursing students and school children gained knowledge regarding youth rights, got awareness and information about youth.
