About the Department
The Department of English was established in the year of 2009 with an objective of imparting a comprehensive and wide-ranging standard of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing (LSRW) skills of the students in English language and literature. It also aims at unfolding the students’ English proficiency through the streamed and updated teaching-learning process. In addition, it instills an aura of confidence in the students by building their competence level with adequate language enrichment activities. Moreover, it mends a sturdy platform with spawning countless job opportunities by inculcating them by means of sufficient placement training programmes to fulfill the prospects of the corporate and industry.

The Department has been organizing various literary activities under “ENGLISH LITERARY SOCIETY”, the Department Association through various clubs to develop the Creativity & Innovation of our students. It organizes ‘Guest Lectures, Workshops and Seminars’ by subject experts from various Universities.

Reading Club
Reading Club aims at promoting our students wide range of knowledge and communication skills. Reading and discussion are essential to higher education. Reading expands cultural horizons, initiates readers to innovative ways of understanding and experiencing the world. Discussion challenges readers to replicate critically, to communicate efficiently and to share their ideas with others. Reading and discussion promote intellectual growth, moral development and aesthetic appreciation.
Creative Writing Club
The Creative Writing Club is open to students who are interested in writing poetry, prose, plays, lyrics, short fictions, graphic novels, and other genres. The purpose of the Creative Writing Club is to provide a positive and productive atmosphere for developing student writers to integrate, learn, and grow. During the course of the year the Creative Writing Club promotes writing through contests, publication opportunities, and multiple writing tips.
Orators Club
The Orators Club offers a common platform for eloquent and talented students and provides them an opportunity to showcase their abilities which in turn leads to enhancing self confidence and character building. The smooth and effective working of the Orators club is ensured by a competent Executive body which works under the guidance of the Faculty, Dept. of English.
Drama Club
Drama Club is designed as a creative and supportive environment for students to enact dramas, to collaborate with other artists to develop their skills. It aims to provide a significant training ground for students in dramatic arts and to make the students become the literary actors.
Quiz Club
A Quiz club has been functioning in our college with the objective of training the students to actively participate in various intercollegiate and state level competitions. The main intention of the club is to update the knowledge of the students in various fields like academics, general knowledge, analytical abilities, quantitative reasoning, etc. Quiz programs are conducted in each academic year at regular intervals for the betterment of students.

Eligibility of the Courses
B.A. (ENGLISH)
Duration of the course
3 years with 6 semesters.
Eligibility
A pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu with Any group or any other examination accepted as equivalent by the syndicate of the Periyar University.
M.A. (ENGLISH)
Duration of the course
2 years with 4 semesters.
Eligibility
A pass in B.A. English or any degree from any recognized University.
M.Phil (ENGLISH)
Duration of the course
1 Year/ Full Time
Eligibility
A pass in M.A. English under Periyar university or any other recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks and a pass in the entrance examination conducted by the university. It is subjected to the eligibility criteria fixed by the Periyar University.
